Northern Monkeys Kite Group are a bunch of like-minded freestyle trick kite fliers who regularly get together to fly, enjoy and promote the niche sport of trick kites. We are based in and around West Yorkshire, UK but regularly meet up with other flyers around the country and are proud to have kite friends in all four corners of the world. Our local flying sites are currently in Pontefract, Halifax, Leeds, and Huddersfield and we also hold two weekend fly-ins at Filey, East Yorkshire per year which involve flying, camping, BBQs, great company and laughter. We are different from most kite-flying groups in that we do not really see ourselves as a ‘club’ in which you have to pay a membership fee, abide within formal rules and rigid in structure. We pride ourselves on informality, and a warm welcome.

Flying Sites

Pontefract Racecourse, Pontefract, West Yorkshire, WF8 4QD, UK

Pontefract Racecourse is probably our favourite flying site.

It is easily accessible straight off the M62, has free parking, gates that stay open all day, every day and has a huge open expense of well cared for open park in the middle of the course.

The race track itself is a full circuit of 2.5 miles, making it one of the longest continuous flat racing circuits in Europe. This gives you an idea of how much open land there is in the middle. (more…)

Roils Head Moor, just off Rye Lane, Halifax, HX2 0QP

Roils Head Moor is situated just outside of Halifax and is notoriously high, windy and a very cold venue in Winter months.

It can be slightly tricky to find so we suggest that you contact us via our Facebook page if you are planning on visiting and need directions.

As already mentioned it is pretty high up and on a clear day you will find yourself looking down on a lot of beautiful surrounding countryside. Off in the distance you can see rows of wind turbines, cows grazing in fields, planes lazily traversing the sky, weather fronts coming in on the horizon; it is a beautiful spot. (more…)

Hall Bower Playing Fields (Newsome Panthers ARLFC ground), Hall Bower Lane, Newsome, Huddersfield, HD4 6RR

Hall Bower playing fields are the newest venue that the NMKG fly at. It is situated in Huddersfield just under the famous local landmark of Castle Hill.

The fields are used by Newsome Panthers ARLFC so we strongly suggest that you check out their website before travelling as they often have rugby league matches on there. (more…)
